Double Standard
Yesterday during the cross examination of witnesses to torture during his regime, Saddam Hussein's lawyers asked if they had had their pictures taken during their torture and if dogs had been present - they said no.
I hope that everyone (if there is anyone) reading can see the situation we are in as a nation. Our administration's syntactical gymnastics with 'torture' dwarf our former president's idiotic statement: "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is." What should the international court do if Saddam's lawyers claim that he was just using 'interrogation techniques' in line with the standard being set by the US? We are no longer the moral watchdog for the world; we no longer represent justice and equality; the Greatest Generation handed the reigns to a corrupt, power hungry, compromised elite that will stop at nothing and stoop to anything to maintain it's status.
What should people of faith do? Pull a Dobson and cozy up the the powerful so long as the pay lip-service to your agendas? (while withdrawing funds from Wells Fargo for furthering a gay agenda) Withdraw into Bruderhof-like isolation? (which actually looks pretty cool) Or take a stand for a comprehensive pro-all-life, pro-peace, sustainable nation; while recognizing God's truth and our own limits of understanding?

Bruderhof does look pretty cool! Do you think people could form something like this... in a city? What if communities like Bruderhof formed in urban cities? This way, the power of such a community could influence the city, acting as 'salt' to the city and the issues within the city?
It could be a community living for God's shalom (peace). It could be a place of healing and hope, a community committed to living a different way, yet committed to influencing and redeeming it's neighborhood and city. ?
